Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Telecommunications Rasim Ljajic stated on Wednesday that at the meeting in Geneva was told that the agreement on telecommunications reached between Belgrade and Pristina in Brussels has to be respected, adding it was also specified that Serbia consent was important in order for Pristina to receive a three-digit calling code.
Ljajic told RTS that there are three parties that are significant for the implementation of this agreement – the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Serbia and Austria, which will file the request on Kosovo’s behalf, or in this case – the EU.
On Tuesday, Ljajic met with ITU Secretary-General Houlin Zhao in Geneva, who said that the ITU will assist with the implementation of the telecommunication agreement reached in Brussels recently.
Austria has not filed the request yet, Ljajic said, adding that November 15 is the deadline for its submission.
Asked who will be the owner of the 383 calling code, Ljajic said that it is defined that “Kosovo will have an asterisk” in the bulletin that contains all the codes for the geographic territories.
