Kurti: We are ready for elections

(Most monitored broadcasters, KTV)

“The joint opposition will continue to oppose the Association of Serb Majority Municipalities until the end. We are together in activities and positions as far as opposition of the Association is concerned, and I believe that we are going to continue to oppose it together until we reach the final success which ultimately not be our success, but the success of Kosovo citizens and of the Republic of Kosovo,” Vetëvendosje’s former leader Albin Kurti said.

In an interview with Kosovapress, Kurti underlined that the political future of three political parties in the opposition has not been discussed with partners of the bloc.

Kurti says that alone, or together with the two other opposition parties, they are ready for new elections; however, according to him, halting of the Association remains the most vital thing.

“We are always ready for next elections, as a day less with the current government coalition, PDK-LDK-Srpska, means a day more for the Republic of Kosovo,” Kurti stated.

Kosovo coordinator in talks with Serbia, Blerim Shala said that the Association of Serb Majority Municipalities is not against Kosovo.

According to him, the Association is part of the continuation of talks that are in line with the Kosovo Constitution and laws.

He also said that if Kosovo becomes a UNESCO member, it will get additional guarantees for protection of Serb cultural heritage in Kosovo. Shala underlined that there is a wrong impression about this, as there are constitutional and legal guarantees for the Serb cultural heritage.

On the other hand, Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo Branimir Stojanovic considers that having in mind that the current political developments in Kosovo are not that simple, serious political efforts will be needed for establishment of the Association of Serb Majority Municipalities, RTK2 reported. He considers establishment of this Association as hope for survival of Serbs in Kosovo.

MPs block Assembly, but receive their per diems

MPs of the opposition parties are constantly blocking the Assembly from holding its sessions to oppose agreements reached in Brussels with Serbia and demarcation with Montenegro. However, MPs of both the ruling and opposition parties are not also refusing per diems and other benefits.

Civil society members consider this action of MPs hypocritical and unjustifiable.

Covering the same story, KTV reported that only for the three first three sessions of this season MPs are believed to have received over 70.000 Euros of per diems.
