The chairperson of the Serbian Parliament’s Committee for Kosovo and Metohija, Milovan Drecun, said that powerful states have promised to authorities in Pristina the membership in UNESCO, as a compensation due to the creation of a special court for war crimes and Association/Community of Serb municipalities (A/CSM).
“They have some powerful states behind them which are very successful in lobbying, pressure and blackmailing in the entire UN system, and one can’t see a fair fight based on facts and arguments,” said Drecun to journalists in the Serbian Parliament. He added that Pristina will probably be more successful in the first two phases, that is, in the period where decision will be made about whether Kosovo’s membership would be discussed at the UNESCO session, however the biggest struggle will be in November when voting would take place at the UNESCO General Assembly, and added that Serbia will be most successful in the third, final, phase.
Drecun further said that a process is ongoing aimed that opening of chapters in the negotiation process ends with the change in Serbia’s stand with regard to the status of Kosovo. “Conditioning of the European integration with recognition of Kosovo is undermining stability of the region and process of normalization of relations. Serbia, in this period, should reject those powerful efforts in imposing this conditioning,” said Drecun.
