Orthodox priest Sasa Mitrovic and his wife Marija are the first Serbs who returned to southern Mitrovica after 11 years.

This couple was driven out of the southern Mitrovica in 1999.

The southern part of Mitrovica is inhabited by Albanians, and the few non-Albanians that remained have been expelled during the pogrom in the March of 2004.

Father Mitrovic told Tanjug that he came with the blessing of Bishop Teodosije, noting that there had been no priest in the local St. Sava church for a full 11 years.

The Sunday’s liturgy at St. Sava’s church, which was torched and desecrated in the 2004 pogrom, was attended by around twenty believers from the northern part of Mitrovica.
