Plans to remove the so-called ‘Peace Park’ barricade on the main River Iber bridge on 15 October have been postponed indefinitely, said sources from the Mitrovica North municipality. The postponement, according to the source, came as a result of the current political situation in Kosovo. “Recent events across Kosovo, including protests against the Community are the reasons why the removal of the park has been delayed,” the source added. At the same time, Mitrovica North Mayor Goran Rakic told the Serb media that there will be no works at the park until a Memorandum of Understanding with southern Mitrovica on defining the inter-municipal border is not signed. Rakic said the MoU was supposed to have been signed on 10 October whereby three villages with Albanian majority would become part of the northern municipality of Mitrovica. Mitrovica Mayor Agim Bahtiri, meanwhile, reacted to recent reports of the postponement of the barricade removal. He warned the local and international officials “not to play with fire” and expressed determination to continue with the plan as originally agreed in Brussels. “On the contrary, I will join the opposition and demand annulment of four agreements reached in Brussels,” he said.
