“Although until now Kosovo has achieved very good results in many areas, it is still making efforts to have a more sustainable economic development,” it was said on Saturday at a press conference organized by the UN Agencies in Kosovo with the topic “Launching of Global Sustainable Goals in Kosovo”, where were reflected the efforts and achievements of Kosovo institutions in this regard.

The head of the United Nations Development Program in Kosovo, Andrew Russell, spoke about the UN’s efforts to achieve the objectives for sustainable economic development. He said that to achieve these objectives the United Nations needs the help of everyone, even the people of Kosovo itself.  “Kosovo is present in the global objectives. We may be the last generation that will eradicate poverty, but to make this possible we need to include everyone, even the people of Kosovo,” Russell said.

Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Isa Mustafa, spoke about the achievements that Kosovo made so far, saying that Kosovo has managed to reduce some of the problems that delay the sustainability of economic growth, such as reducing the poverty, unemployment, especially among women and men of older age. He said that the government defined the economic growth as a fundamental objective for the future, adding that with the EU membership, Kosovo would gain sustainable economic development.

At the local level, Mayor of Gjakova, Mimoza Kusari Lila, spoke on this regard.  “The Municipality of Gjakova has a profound cooperation with the UN. Our relation to UN makes us feel like true global citizens. From what I want to specify, is the cooperation with UNICEF on the objectives for a Kosovo without poverty, without hunger and with a better health sector,” Kusari – Lila said.

The United Nations this September concluded the sustainable development summit, by pledging again for its duties for a world that moves towards a comprehensive, flexible and sustainable development. In designing the global objectives, Kosovo contributed through participation in local processes.
