Haliti: Next Assembly session during this week

Assembly Presidency will meet on Tuesday and decide about the date of the new Assembly session. Deputy Assembly Speaker, Xhavit Haliti, announced that a new plenary session of the Assembly is expected within this week. He said that the institutions are functioning and that the Government has not collapsed.

With all the tensions of the lengthy Friday session, which continued until the early hours of Saturday, another session is expected to be scheduled for this week, KTV reported.

The Assembly Presidency will meet on Tuesday at 11:00 hrs to discuss 17 agenda points.

Deputy Speaker of Kosovo Assembly, Xhavit Haliti, expressed convinced that the Assembly will hold a session during this week. He said that there is room to discuss all issues which are considered as violations and to find a conclusion from all the debates.

Meanwhile, internationals continue to call for the resumption of Assembly’s work.

US Ambassador to Kosovo, Greg Delawie once again reiterated the importance of having a functional Assembly. Delawie emphasized that the non-approval of laws might have bad influence in the future of Kosovo.

On the other hand, the opposition is firm in their requests: retraction of signatures from the agreement or early elections. Government officials told to KTV that the Government is against early elections but, according to them, also the internationals would not allow early elections.

Thaçi accuses the opposition for the blockade

Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister, Hashim Thaçi said that the opposition is endangering all normal developments in Kosovo.

Thaçi, through a post in his Facebook account, harshly criticized the actions of opposition parties in the Assembly of Kosovo.

“A number of international agreements, including international assistance to Kosovo, are at stake because of delays in approving them in the Assembly of Kosovo’, Thaçi pointed out.

On the other hand, Vetëvendosje MP, Albulena Haxhiu wrote on her Facebook account, that the removal of the Government can only be done through mass protests.

SAA to be signed on Tuesday

Kosovo Prime Minister Isa Mustafa and EU senior representatives are expected to sign the Stabilization Association Agreement (SAA) on Tuesday.

PM Mustafa said that by signing the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA), Kosovo expresses its willingness and capability to demonstrate to the European Union that is a very serious partner state in carrying out all the necessary reforms.

In an interview for ‘Radio Free Europe”, Mustafa criticized the opposition for having a certain tendency to block the work of Kosovo Assembly. Mustafa said that the opposition can only create difficulties, but, according to him, they cannot prevent, block or create obstacles to regular work of the Assembly of Kosovo by any means.

Police arrest a suspect for attacking bus with Serb pilgrims in Pejë/Pec

Kosovo Police arrested an 18-year old ethnic Albanian, suspected of stoning the bus transporting Serb pilgrims in Pejë/Pec on Sunday.

According to a press release of Kosovo Police, the suspect admitted to stoning the bus. The suspect said that he stoned the bus because he was provoked by unsuitable gesticulation of one of the passengers.

In his statement, the suspect said that he was not aware of the ethnicity of the passengers and driver. He said that he threw the stones in the rear window of the bus after all passengers were outside the bus.

Vetëvendosje reports to internationals

Vetëvendosje movement published a report which is addressed to international organizations, EU MPs, US Congressmen’s and to the international media.

The report covers the main political developments in Kosovo since the last parliamentary elections of 2014 and also gives information about events that have resulted with the current situation.

Vetëvendosje’s secretary for foreign relations, Bojken Abazi, told to KTV that the report is an answer to many questions that they have received related to the current situation in the country and has been addressed to “Vetëvendosje’s   international friends”.

“Because of the recent developments, we have received several inquiries about the situation in Kosovo from international media, center-left parties that we cooperate and from organizations such as Amnesty International who were interested about the arrest of opposition activists”, said Abazi.

The report also summarizes the reprisals, arrests and persecution taken by the government against the joint opposition forces that oppose the recent agreements with Serbia and Montenegro.

Assembly Women’s Caucus concerned with increase of gender-based violence

Kosovo Assembly Women’s Caucus expressed concerned with the increase of gender violence cases.

Through a press release, Kosovo Assembly Women’s Caucus condemned the murder of Zejnepe Bytyçi-Berisha by her husband in Suharekë/Suva Reko.

“This is yet another horrible crime which reminds us how fragile we are as a society and particularly as women”, reads the reaction of Kosovo Assembly Women’s Caucus.
