Political analyst Halil Matoshi argues in his opinion piece that, the opposition bloc in Kosovo has built an unsustainable and unrealistic approach against the current government that in fact goes against peace and stability in the region, by turning the people into passive observers of clashes in state institutions. Matoshi notes that the opposition “has blocked state institutions allegedly over the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities and the border demarcation with Montenegro, but in the background one can clearly notice the threat against the idea of an independent Republic of Kosovo as a Western project”. He writes that Vetevendosje has rejected the principle of a multiethnic state (Vetevendosje is engaged for unification with Albania), without realizing that this idea divides Kosovo and legitimizes the demand of Kosovo Serbs to join Serbia together with one part of Kosovo’s territory. According to Matoshi, the eventual resignation of Prime Minister and Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) leader Isa Mustafa would help ease the tensions and would give the opposition the necessary room to reflect on this. He further suggests that a broad-based agreement to hold early parliamentary elections next year could be the best possible solution for the current stalemate.
