We can continue fooling ourselves, but truth be told… (Koha Ditore)

Adriatik Kelmendi, KTV’s editor-in-chief, writes that neither the ruling parties nor the opposition are seriously giving any thought to getting out of the current situation and “as always, the people will pay the price.” Kelmendi said the ruling coalition has no concrete proposal that would assure the opposition that their concerns regarding the Association/Community of Serb majority municipalities and the border demarcation with Montenegro will be seriously taken into consideration whereas the three opposition parties – Vetevendosje, Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) – still have no clear picture of what their final goal is. Judging by their actions, it seems their main goal is reformatting of the current government and removal of Isa Mustafa from the post of prime minister, says Kelmendi. All the possible options Kelmendi mentions as a possible way out of the situation go through the Assembly so it needs to be functional to be able to deliberate on issues that the opposition is disputing. As to the possibility of organising a referendum, Kelmendi highlights that there is no such law in Kosovo and again, even if the law on referendum is drafted, it would have to go through the Assembly vote to become applicable. “We can continue fooling ourselves, but truth be told, the only way to annul the two agreements in their present form is for the government and the opposition to be honest with the people and their voters first of all. To find a way to sit together and with mutual compromises and consensus approve principles that would be followed in order for Kosovo to win in both cases,” writes Kelmendi.
