Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Marko Djuric said that Belgrade would seek to resolve the issue of Suvi Do in Brussels and so prevent Pristina’s intention of merging this part of northern Mitrovica with the southern, Albanian part of the town.

Djuric yesterday visited village of Suvi Do and the northern part of Mitrovica. He attended a ceremony at which he presented keys to residents of two buildings in the neighbourhood of Bosnjacka mahala including 24 apartments for socially vulnerable families. The Serbian Government has invested RSD 60 million.

Djuric warned yesterday that residents of Suvi Do, if they were unattended, cannot pass even two kilometres to the north of Mitrovica.

“They live in constant fear and under pressure. Unfortunately, in the north of Kosovo and Metohija there are Serbian communities that are threatened. Suvi Do, located near Kosovska Mitrovica is one of those places that are jeopardized more than 16 years and in a kind of isolation,” Djuric said.

Djuric noted that in the past 12 months, the Serbian government and the municipality have built 100 apartments in Mitrovica. He pointed out that it is the only large urban Serb settlement that has been safeguarded after the pogrom, violence and expulsion in 1999 and pointed out that in future, the government will keep paying great attention to its development.

There will be no job cuts, but rather we will invest in job creation, said Djuric in North Mitrovica and added that Serbia would continue to support Serbian people through the institutions, but also it would introduce much more order in their functioning.
