The director of the Serbian Government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Marko Djuric, stated yesterday that Serbia, while fighting for its position as a unified state in UNESCO, does not fight only for itself, but fights for the international law and justice, too.
“No one can take away what is really ours. Serbia, while fighting for its position as a unified state in UNESCO, doesn’t fight only for itself, but for international law and justice, too” said Djuric, and added that there are many in the world who understand this, and that there are many who don’t understand it in this way or are under pressure by powerful states who recognized unilateral declaration of independence of Kosovo and who want to reward Pristina.
According to Djuric the time has come for development of different relations between Serbs and Albanians, and those relations can’t be built on plundering of heritage, falsifying history and on planting the seeds of dispute amongst future generations. “We don’t want that,” said Djuric.
UNESCO Executive Council recommended Kosovo’s membership in that organization on its session in late October, despite Serbia’s objections. Kosovo’s membership in UNESCO is set to be discussed at UNESCO General Conference agenda on 9 November.
