After the statement of SANU President Vladimir Kostic that “Kosovo is no longer in the hands of Serbia”, for the first time in Serbian Academy of Science and Arts (SANU) gathered academicians.
In 1912, the army of the Kingdom of Serbia returned Kosovo within the borders of Serbia. Since then changed political systems, state boundaries and ideologies, and since 1999 the government in Belgrade, physically, has no control over the territory of Kosovo. Is the statement of academician Kostic heresy, or reality?
“Most of our politicians believe that with the statements ‘Kosovo is Serbia’ and ‘we will never recognize Kosovo’ they answered to the problem. We missed chances, one after another, and now we’re in unfavorable position,” said academician Ljubomir Simovic.
Playwright and member of SANU, Dusan Kovacevic, believes that Serbia must fight for that what survived in Kosovo. “Can someone in Serbia sign any document on alienation of Kosovo? Of course cannot, because it is not his property,” says Dusan Kovacevic.
However, academician Ljubomir Simovic asks the question: “What if they return us Kosovo; do we have some idea how to integrate Kosovo, after things which happened?”
