KFOR has lifted restrictions over certain parts of Serbian air space that were in place since 1999. This news has been published today in Belgrade by the Nato Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the joint press conference with the Serbian prime minister. Stoltenberg explained that KFOR, as of today, completely relaxes security zone and abolishes restrictions introduced in 1999 as a concrete result of relations between Nato and Serbia, and added that it means full integration of Serbia into the European air space. According to Stoltenberg decision was brought based on Serbia’s commitment on normalization of relations with Pristina.
Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said that this is a big news for Serbia, because after 16 years there won’t be any restriction in zone of 25 kilometers in Serbia proper, what has been achieved through political dialogue and concrete talks with Nato. He added that this is key agreement for protection of Serbia, which will have much better military protection, and added that this is the key in preparations for defense of the country. Vucic repeated that Serbia will remain military neutral, but predicts good future when it comes to relations between Serbian and Nato.
