Two days after the Amnesty International called for investigation into the actions of the Kosovo Police (KP) during an operation to arrest Vetevendosje MP Albin Kurti, the KP issued a press release explaining its actions. The KP denied using excessive force during the operation at Vetevendosje Movement offices on 28 November. “The actions of KP officials who participated in the arrest on 28 November 2015, are being examined by the KP Commission for reviewing the use of force by the KP, and the Directorate of Professional Standards. The detailed findings of these reviews will be provided to the Director General of the KP for review and any action that will be necessary,” reads the press release. “KP did not use firearms, rubber bullets or teargas while carrying out the arrests. Resistance encountered include: bars, chairs, tables, metal tools and teargas spray. As a result of these attacks, two police officers and two civilians were injured.” During the action, KP states that they were obliged to use proportionate and necessary force in response to violence directed towards them. The press release also notes that during the search operation in the offices of Vetevendosje, they had “invited the leader of this party, Visar Ymeri and MP Aida Derguti, to be present during the operation, but they had refused to do so.”
