Cases related to the usurped property in Kosovo are stuck in court procedures for years. The most common reasons for delays are insufficient number of judges, but also the lack of willingness of the judiciary to consider them. Although cases of usurpation of property should be considered as a priority, there is a lack of the political will to solve this problem, was said in the talk show “Poglavlje” on RTK2.

The Ombudsperson Institution issued 14 decisions with the recommendations relating to the usurpation of private property to the competent authorities. When it comes to this issue, the Ombudsman can provide only advisory support to the parties. “From January 2009 till November 2015, the Ombudsperson Institution received 1,602 appeals related to the property issues,” said Suzana Gashi from the Ombudsman office.

As possible solutions in cases related to the usurped property, was mentioned forming of the Special department and addressing to the Strasbourg court, but, as agreed, without political will and the involvement of relevant institutions progress is impossible.
