Kosovo’s Deputy Justice Minister Lirak Çelaj said at the end of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign that it is no coincidence that Dragash was chosen for the closing event because the municipality authorities have shown commitment and professionalism in dealing with cases of domestic violence. According to Celaj, this is also evident in the latest UN Women Report. “16 Days of Activism are more than just an awareness campaign, they are a time that would have to make us reflect on where Kosovo stands in fighting gender-based violence,” said Celaj adding that this problem is more present in transitioning societies such as Kosovo. He said that work is underway for the drafting of a national strategy and action plan for dealing with gender-based violence, supported by UN Women and the US Embassy in Pristina.
