The situation in Kosovo is very dangerous due to the use of violence for political purposes, stated British Ambassador to Kosovo Ruairi O’Connell. “It is a democratic right of the opposition to oppose international agreements, and criticism should be voiced, however, in my opinion, it cannot be done through the use of force,” said O’Connell on Monitor TV show on RTK.
The opposition aims to form government and this is normal anywhere, however, Kosovo being a young democracy, where political and democratic culture are still in the making, there is a risk, said O’Connell. He added that use of violence for political purposes is creating more problems than solutions. “I am optimistic that elected representatives of the people will take responsibility in finding a solution to this situation. It is very important that Kosovo takes responsibility,” said O’Connell and added that the government should do everything possible to explicit the agreement on Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities.
