The Vetevendosje movement on the occasion of International Women’s Day, 8 March, organized a debate on victims of sexual violence during the last war in Kosovo. During this meeting it was said that Kosovo institutions even 17 years after the war, have done nothing to protect the victims of sexual violence. The leader of Vetevendosje movement, Visar Ymeri, said the issue of sexual violence victims is being treated in the worst way possible, is being ignored and forgotten. “As a society we tend to forget what has happened, rather than insisting on justice for the crimes that Serbia committed against us. There is no room for shame, but there is a need to revolt and bring perpetrators to justice,” Ymeri said. Meanwhile, Kosovo Assembly Deputy Speaker Aida Derguti said the waiting time is over and now everyone must increase the pressure and fight for the rights of sexual violence victims. “This serious wound without treatment over the years was due to the irresponsibility and negligence of our institutions,” Derguti said.
