The election process in Kosovo and Metohija proceeded remarkably well, as we had a better turnout than in 2014 and 2012, Marko Djuric has said. Speaking late on Sunday, the Director of the Serbian Government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija added that “the OSCE had almost absolutely nothing to object to when it comes to the vote.”
Djuric told Belgrade-based TV Pink that he was satisfied that the Serbs in Kosovo had the opportunity to vote on their future. “I think that in this election Serbia has shown its democratic maturity, unity and strength, and whatever the result may be, the Serbian Progressive Party will not make political compromises with Serbia’s future, with the fight to build strong institutions and the fight for a different and better Serbia” said Djuric.
We expect the final turnout in today’s parliamentary elections to be between 55.5 and 56 percent, an “indication that the entire election process was democratic and more legitimate” and that people are aware it is important to take part in decisions our future depends on, Djuric said.
Voter turnout in Kosovo stood at 44 percent, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) said in Pristina. The polling stations closed at 20:00 CET, with no incident registered during polling hours. After the close of polls, the OSCE transported the collected ballot papers to Raska and Vranje in central Serbia and handed them over to the national electoral commission for counting and accompanying procedures, Tanjug reported.
A total of 106,094 people in Kosovo and Metohija were eligible to vote in Serbian parliamentary elections.
