On the eve of today’s visit of the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini to Pristina, NGO Aktiv urged the Serbian representatives in the Kosovo institutions to raise the issue of visa liberalization for the passports which Republic of Serbia is issuing to its citizens in Kosovo.

Aktiv recalls that Coordination Directorate (Koordinaciona Uprava) is issuing passports to the Serbian citizens living in Kosovo since 2009, but passports issued by this institution are exempted from the visa regime liberalization. “Kosovo Serbs face numerous administrative obstacles in exercising their right to identity documents. Therefore, the exclusion of Serbian passports from the visa regime liberalization can lead to a situation where Kosovo Serbs are the only group in the Western Balkans subjected to strict visa requirements. Such a scenario would certainly mean a discriminatory attitude towards the Kosovo Serbs.” Due to all these reasons, NGO Aktiv invites representatives of the Serbian community in the Kosovo Assembly to put this issue on the agenda of the relevant institutions, without delay.
