After two weeks of intensive work the ad hoc commission for reviewing border delineation between Kosovo and Montenegro presented its stances regarding this process. Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga, as the founder of this commission, said that the commission did not find any violations in demarcation process.

“From the legal and technical aspects, international experts have not found any violations on the Kosovo- Montenegro demarcation process, and are of the opinion that from this viewpoint, process has adhered to the international standards,” President Jahjaga said.

The international experts appointed by the Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga also said that there was nothing in this process that was not in compliance with the border line.

Kosovo Government welcomed the assessment of the international commission on demarcation with Montenegro.

“We are pleased with the fact that members of this commission did not identify any violations in the demarcation process. This commission reconfirms what has also been confirmed earlier that, with the border delineation between Kosovo and Montenegro, Kosovo neither lost land, nor it gave away land,” the Government’s reaction reads.

According to the Government, all dilemmas regarding the demarcation issue have been cleared with this assessment.

Opposition against the demarcation assessment report

The unified opposition considers findings of the ad hoc commission for reviewing the border delineation process between Kosovo and Montenegro as assessments which were done for the needs of Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga and as such, they consider that these findings cannot have reflections on the necessity of amending the border with Montenegro.

“Kosovo border can only be delineated by a credible Kosovo state commission which can also have international experts,” the unified opposition’s reaction states.

“Kosovo has no territory to give away and we will defend its territorial integrity irrespective to such decisions,” their reaction ends.

Online version of the same broadcaster, Koha.net, reported on many reactions that followed publication of this report.

AAK leader Ramush Haradinaj said they will not report to anyone about Kosovo’s land.  “The truth about the border with Montenegro will be revealed the day that those who brought the borderline for several kilometres within the territory of Kosovo will be imprisoned”, Haradinaj wrote in a Facebook post.

Using the same social network, Visar Ymeri of Vetëvendosje announced that protests will continue, considering the existing demarcation as unacceptable and criminal toward Kosovo.

Kosovo president-elect Hashim Thaçi also commented the report through his Facebook account, saying that it gave a correct and professional response on the demarcation issue.

Whereas, Prime Minister of Kosovo said that Government he runs has reasons to be proud as it fulfilled EU visa criteria on Wednesday, referring to appointment of Procurement Review Board (PRB) members and the report on demarcation of the border with Montenegro.

Head of the European Union Office in Kosovo, Samuel Zbogar, stated that the day of movement without visas for Kosovo is near.

During a discussion at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Zbogar said that much political trickery has been played; however, according to him, now it is time for the leaders to see Kosovo as their key interest.

“You are eager and you deserve to travel freely in the EU and this day is near,” Zbogar said, while he underlined that on this journey to visa liberalization, Kosovo has carried out many reforms and it is in a better position because of this long process.

Zbogar also spoke about the joint Kosovo and EU challenges. According to him, these challenges start from migration through to terrorism.
