President of the European Movement in Kosovo Rada Trajkovic appealed to the Serbian authorities to begin issuing the “valid passports” to the Serbs residing in Kosovo. “The Serbian state put the Serbian community in Kosovo in a position to choose between Serbia and Schengen through its unconstitutional decision to issue passports of the Coordination Center to the Serbs residing in Kosovo. Therefore, I appeal to the Government of Serbia and I call on the European Commission, the European Council and Parliament to have a comprehensive approach on the visa liberalization decision” said Trajkovic.
She believes that the recommendation of the European Commission on the abolition of the visa regime for citizens of Kosovo, “recklessly hinders the rights of the Serbian community.” Trajkovic underlines that this recommendation is forcing five EU members that have not recognized Kosovo to de facto do it, since they will accept Kosovo travel documents. “This means that if Serbian citizens residing in Kosovo wish to exercise the right to free movement within the EU, they must renounce the citizenship of their home country, though citizenship is guaranteed by the Ahtisaari plan,” concluded Trajkovic.
