Thaçi: No one can flee justice (media)

Several media cover Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi’s meeting today with newly-appointed Minister of Justice, Dhurata Hoxha. President Thaçi and Minister Hoxha discussed the important of further consolidation of the justice sector. Parties noted that there has been great progress in Kosovo in establishing the rule of law, since the declaration of independence, and they confirmed the need for continued commitment to ensure better and more efficient functioning of the judiciary and of other institutions in the justice sector. Thaçi expressed his support for the work being done on amending and supplementing the Criminal Code and encouraged the commitment to a faster conclusion to this initiative. “Kosovo has the best Criminal Code in the region. However, if any deficiencies are identified, it is necessary to fill these gaps as soon as possible”, President Thaçi said “No one can flee justice”, President Thaçi said. Minister of Justice, Dhurata Hoxha, confirmed her commitment to reforming the legislation in force and indicated the direction of her engagement as the new minister of justice that relies on the principle that nobody is above the law and that there will be no double standards because all shall be equal before the law. “The strategic review of the rule of law sector will be a priority of mine along with reforming legislation to ensure higher efficiency in this sector”, Minister Hoxha said. Thaçi expressed his support for the work of the new minister. “The rule of law is key to the further development of the state of Kosovo”, President Thaçi concluded.
