The research titled “Brussels Agreement – unattended topics” that was carried out by the NGO Center for Peace and Tolerance (CPT) in cooperation with the RTV Herc from Štrpce/Shtërpcë, shows that there is a big gap between desires, interests and stances of Serbian social factors in Kosovo when compared with stances of the political elites in Belgrade and Pristina.
“Topics that are most important to residents have not been discussed in the frame of Brussels dialogue, since Pristina and Belgrade have dealt more with political issues, by ticking their obligations toward the European Union, instead of dealing with essential and life matters,” said director of the NGO CPT, Nenad Maksimović, to RTV KiM, and highlighted examples of violations of basic human rights and institutional discrimination.
Issues addressed in the frame of the researches and debates within the project dubbed ‘Elephant in a Room’ are, among others, use of Serbian language in translated laws in Kosovo, independent TV channel in the Serbian language, employment of Serbs in public enterprises and institutions. In the field of economic development attention was focused on the issues such as unemployment, economic isolation, donations policies and climate for investors.
The goal of the project was to contribute in finding solutions to problems faced by the Serbian community in Kosovo within the topics that are not covered, or not covered in the sufficient manner, by the Brussels agreement. The goal of the project was also to increase the influence of residents in finding solutions in the areas of protection of non-majority communities, economic development and future of the education.
