Director of the Balkan group from Pristina Naim Rashiti says that the process of normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosovo fell into great difficulties due to problems with the implementation of the agreements reached, but also due to political developments in Kosovo and in Serbia.
“This led to the fact that Prime Ministers of the two countries were not able to continue the dialogue,” said Rashiti to Radio Free Europe.
He believes that this process, no matter how important, was not able to assist in creation of the impression that really the normalization of relations is happening between the two countries.
The former head of the Serbian negotiating team Borislav Stefanović, who has started a process of dialogue in 2011, says that Brussels ignores the fact that the interruptions in the negotiations between Pristina and Belgrade have become a regular situation and successes in this process an exception.
“Sometimes the interruptions are due to our elections, and sometimes because of their, and sometimes because we are waiting for the EU to interpret what they have agreed. In fact, it has become a common thing that everyone interprets in their own way the agreed,” said Stefanović.
Rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament Ulrike Lunacek said that the European peace project will not be completed until the six Western Balkan countries become EU members.
“Serbia is aware that after the case of the Cyprus membership, EU will not accept any country whose borders are not clearly defined. So I am optimistic that the process of dialogue will help Serbia to normalize relations with Kosovo, and that means to recognize it,” said Lunacek for Radio Free Europe.
