Lawyer Živojin Jokanović says to RTK2 that he hopes the Special Court will meet the expectations of the Serbs in Kosovo.
On the other hand, Bekim Blakaj from the Humanitarian Law Center believes The Hague is good location for the Court but also he does not expect too much from it.
The two interlocutors agreed that the Special Court will not affect the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina, but they have different expectations.
Jokanović believes the Court should not be limited only to war crimes, and due to security reasons and possible influences the court is located in The Hague.
He believes that the lack of confidence of Serbs in international courts, is justified, but he expresses the hope that this court will do better.
“The International Court in The Hague for the former Yugoslavia, which judged mainly Serbs, did not earn the trust. I hope that the next court which refers to Kosovo will not be like that. I believe that judges should be from different countries. “
Bekim Blakaj from the Fund for Humanitarian Law says to RTK 2 that the establishment of the court was inevitable, but he does not expect too much.
“Following a report by Dick Marty, I think that it was necessary to establish such a court, and probably there are strong reasons why the court is located in The Hague, as well as why the judges and prosecutors are foreigners. This is because the local judicial officials failed to address cases of war crimes and crimes against humanity. My expectations are not too high, and I think families of the victims will not be satisfied with the number of case that will be before the court. “
The first indictments can be expected in the first half of next year, according to announcements from The Hague.
