The news website notes that opposition parties in Kosovo and political analysts have continuously criticised the position of the Serbian List vis-à-vis the state and institutions of Kosovo, some even arguing that parties that don’t recognise Kosovo’s independence should not be part of the central government. Bilall Sherifi, Secretary of the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA), told the news website today that even though the participation of the Serb minority in the government is a constitutional category, “parties that are not loyal to the state of Kosovo and openly fight against it, should not be part of the government”. Sherifi said the Serbian List’s decision to suspend their participation in the Assembly came after orders from the Serbian Government and for the sake of Belgrade’s interests. “We have always said that the Serbian List was not established to protect the interests of Kosovo Serbs but rather the interests of Serbia. If their objective was to protect the interests of Kosovo Serbs, they would have voted in favour of the Trepca law because of the benefits it will bring to the people of Kosovo, including Kosovo Serbs,” he added.
