Vetevendosje Movement collected signatures from MPs for a special session of the Assembly to discuss the death of its activist, Astrit Dehari, at the Prizren detention facility. However, the request failed as, according to Vetevendosje, one of the MPs was pressured into removing his signature. In sign of protest, Vetevendosje and the other opposition parties, walked out of the meeting of the Assembly Presidency which was supposed to decide the timing of the next session. “For days now Vetevendosje was working on gathering signatures to call a special session but the signature of one MP was retracted at the last minute and we think this came as a result of pressure from the ruling parties,” said Assembly vice president and Vetevendosje MP, Aida Derguti.”We hoped to come out with a resolution calling for an independent investigation into Dehari’s death,” Derguti said. “Fear to discuss this issue shows lack of transparency,” she added. KTV sources claim that the MP who retracted the signature from the request is from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK). Meanwhile, Assembly President Kadri Veseli said that the death of Vetevendosje activist Astrit Dehari must not be politicised. “We have to have faith in our institutions and wait for their reply. I can assure you though that we will get to the bottom of the truth even if we have to hire foreign experts,” Veseli said.
