The opposition parties’ MPs could not secure enough votes during the Assembly plenary session today to call for an extraordinary session to discuss the death of Vetevendosje activist Astrit Dehari in Prizren detention center. The ruling coalition partners said they were against holding of the extraordinary session on Dehari case prior to the publication of final results of the investigation. “I don’t think now is the time to vote, now is the time for justice. Those seeking justice for Dehari should let the justice do its job,” said Zenun Pajaziti, Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) parliamentary group chief. However, Kosovo Assembly President and PDK leader, Kadri Veseli, said that someone is afraid of the truth behind this case. “On 14 December, PDK’s parliamentary group will require extraordinary session on Dehari case, in order for the truth to be unveiled, whatever it may be,” Veseli said. He also said that people should know why the justice system keeps someone in prison while for the same charges keeps others in house arrest. “Someone should be held accountable for it,” he said, adding that someone should also be held accountable for the safety of the accused, wherever they are. According to him, the investigations must be completed in order not to be manipulated to damage Kosovo. Meanwhile, Vetevendosje Movement MPs during today’s session carried posters reading “Justice for Astrit Dehari”. Vetevendosje’s parliamentary group chief, Glauk Konjufca, said during the session that it is nonsense to call it a suicide while the investigations are still ongoing on Dehari’s case.
