Belgrade wants a continuation of the dialogue with Pristina in a status-neutral way, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic has said.

That also implies that Pristina does not begin every discussion with references to “genocide” or “ethnic cleansing” allegedly committed by Serbia, he told a regular news conference in Belgrade on Thursday.

Pristina is displaying nervousness because it is less and less successful on the international scene, Dacic said.

Speaking about his decision to leave a Warsaw conference where Kosovo FM Enver Hodzaj blamed Serbia for the wars in the former Yugoslavia, Dacic said that he had first waited to see the reaction of EU officials, but that there had been none.

Serbia expects that an intergovernmental conference could be held in Brussels in December to open at least one new chapter in its EU accession talks, Dacic also said on Thursday.

Serbia is expected to open at least one chapter – Chapter 5 on public procurement, he told a regular press conference.

Serbia is hoping that Chapters 25 and 26 on education, science and culture will also be opened this month, he said.

The EU General Affairs Council is expected to meet on December 13 and adopt conclusions on enlargement that will be confirmed by the European Council, Dacic said.

“We expect the document to be positively toned, to show what Serbia has done over the past period and also be a reference for the opening of new negotiation chapters,” Dacic said.
