On Wednesday, member of the “Fatherland Movement” and a former prominent member of Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) Marko Jakšić wrote an open letter to the Serbian citizens, because Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić mentioned his name on Tuesday evening, while addressing the Serbian public to explain reasons behind decision of Srpska Lista to support Haradinaj’s government.
“Dear citizens of Serbia,
The reason for me to address you this way, was the mentioning of my name by the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić… As I do not have the access to the media, except to some websites, I want to answer the charges put forth by the President. It is clear to me that perhaps only a thousand citizens, of all those who were watching the President last night will have the opportunity to read my denial, but that’s something at least.
I want to inform the citizens of Serbia that last night’s address of the President of the Republic was initiated by the press conference of the People’s Movement of Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija Fatherland… in the Media Centre in Belgrade. This conference was attended by prof. Slobodan Samardžić, Vladimir Gvozdenović, Slaviša Ristić and myself. Our political views got the President of the Republic so agitated, that he addressed the citizens of Serbia in a dramatic manner last night”.
Jakšić further says that President Vučić tried to justify the election of Ramush Haradinaj as the PM of Kosovo, based on the votes of “his Serbian List” by saying that one of the possibilities was for Serbs not to vote or not to take part in the elections, but in that case Serbs would have been exposed to pogrom by Albanians.
“This is a monstrous conclusion, because no one can be killed, just because he/she does not want the separatist elections. I remind the citizens of Serbia that Albanians have boycotted all of our elections organized by the Republic of Serbia for more than twelve years. Such a political strategy put them on the right path to get their own country. The President also says that the Serbs voted in favor of Haradinaj for their security.
…Thus, the President was arguing with logic. A person who, has “butchered” Serbian children cannot, as he said, guarantee the safety of Serbs” Jakšić pointed out.
Jakšić also accused the President Vučić of “playing with the numbers” because in his view he diminished the percentage of Serbs, without any census to 6 or 8 percent, while Jakšić claims that the percentage is closer to 12%. Jakšić also refuted the claims of the President that the security of Serbs was increased and said that close to a hundred cars were burned in northern Kosovo in the last five years.
“Dear Serbian citizens, the President of the Republic announces the internal Serbian dialogue on Kosovo and Metohija, which is supposed to begin in October. It is unusual that during the five years of his reign, he did not bother to read the Platform on Kosovo and Metohija presented by the former President of the Republic of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolić. This only shows how the President imagines a dialogue.”
Jakšić further claims that the President already decided to sign the comprehensive peace treaty, which according to Jakšić is the “recognition of the secession of a part of the territory of Serbia”.
“His obligations to the West, citizens of Serbia – are not our obligations. Therefore, let us not allow the demolishment of the foundation of Serbia, which we call Kosovo and Metohija. Because if it collapses, the roof will fall, Serbia will collapse.”
