Kosovo President, Hashim Thaci, has promised that the fate of missing persons will be a priority issue in the Brussels talks between Pristina and Belgrade. Representatives of the Association of Families of Missing Persons in Pristina say that they need to be part of the talks too. Bajram Cerkini, a member of the association, told the paper that following a request from the families, the association asked for the issue to be addressed at the highest level. Cerkini said Kosovo so far was not authorized to address the matter but that now it has all the required competencies. “I believe the talks are going to be more open and that representatives of families will be included in the process. I cannot say if I will be there or someone else, but there will be representatives of families of missing persons as observers,” he added. Bajram Gecaj, member of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), said this is not the first time that President Thaci is making such promises. “The issue of missing persons must be resolved and its importance will never diminish. The resolution of the matter requires willingness on behalf of Serbia and bigger pressure from the international community. Kosovo’s readiness alone will not bring about the needed results,” Gecaj said.
