Publicist Veton Surroi suggested today that the Kosovo Assembly should adopt a resolution in support of the Nobel Peace Prize nomination for Natasa Kandic and the Fund for the Humanitarian Right (FHR). Surroi wrote in a Facebook post that Kandic and her non-governmental organization did a colossal work in documenting war crimes in the former Yugoslavia and Serbia’s war crimes in Kosovo. Following is Surroi’s full post: “Members of the Kosovo Assembly, ladies and gentlemen, on 31 January 2018, U.S. Senator Roger Wicker and Representative Elliot Engel nominated Natasa Kandic and the Fund for Humanitarian Right for the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize. Natasa Kandic and the FHR were and remain the key documenters of crimes and war victims in the former Yugoslavia and they were the main actors behind the key pillar of the idea that reconciliation between nations and citizens can be done by addressing the past. The FHR, established by Natasa Kandic, is the only reliable institution that documented the war in Kosovo and the crimes committed during that period. Kosovo’s collective war memory was preserved greatly thanks to the work of the FHR and Natasa Kandic. During the breakup of the former Yugoslavia, Natasa Kandic’s voice was clear against Serb and other fascisms. I suggest that the Kosovo Assembly, with the agreement of all parliamentary group, to adopt a resolution on the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize nomination for Natasa Kandic and the FHR. This would not only honor the work of FHR and Natasa Kandic, which was so important for Kosovo and all its citizens, but also the idea for Kosovo and the entire region for reconciliation between nations and citizens by addressing the past”.
