European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiation, Johannes Hahn, said in an interview to Austrian paper Kurier that 2025 is a symbolic date for possible acceptance of new members to European Union. “2025 is not a fixed but a symbolic date that should motivate the region,” Hahn said. He added that though the date could seem very ambitious, it is “theoretically feasible” even for Serbia if it makes quick progress with regards to reforms and normalisation of relations with Kosovo. “Serbia has to focus on three priorities: strengthening democracy and the rule of law, economic and labour market reform and, last but not least, regional reconciliation with its neighbours,” Hahn noted.
