Despite the statements of Kosovo senior officials that visas for Kosovo people will be removed by the end of the year, the European Union has not set a deadline on the matter.

The rapporteur for Kosovo at the European Parliament, Igor Soltes, told Lajmi.net that there is no certain date on visa liberalization. “There is no deadline on resolution of the visa issue. Of course I hope that this will happen as soon as it is possible,” he said.

He has requested more work on combating corruption, stressing that this is a continuous process.

He also said that the five states which have not recognized Kosovo, will not be able to block visa liberalization for Kosovo if the conditions are fulfilled.

Asked what he would suggest to the European Parliament with regards to the visa liberalization for Kosovo, Soltes said “we have very clear regulations and procedures at the European Parliament, and as soon as the political agreement is reached, the process of visa liberalization will start.”
