Kosovo President Hashim Thaci said today that Kosovo is ready to close the chapter of conflict and open the chapter of peace with Serbia. “A few days before the historic summit of the EU and Western Balkans countries in Sofia, I had a friendly telephone conversation with the host of the summit, Bulgarian Prime Minister, Boyko Borissov, whose country chairs the presidency of the European Union,” Thaci wrote in a Facebook post. Thaci said they discussed the importance and great opportunity the summit provides to clarify the European path of Kosovo and all Western Balkans. “The key requirement for EU accession, in addition to meeting the Copenhagen criteria, is to close open issues between all countries in the region that want to join the EU. In this respect, for Kosovo and Serbia it is crucial to reach a legally binding agreement for normalization and reconciliation. I assured my friend Boyko that Kosovo is ready to close the chapter of conflict and open the chapter of peace with Serbia. I will convey this spirit of peace and cooperation on behalf of our citizens at the Sofia Summit, because we are European and we must act in such fashion. This was my key message to my friend Boyko who deserves the utmost respect and consideration for organizing the Summit,” Thaci wrote.
