The news website reports that in today’s Kosovo Assembly session, MPs raised the issue of Kosovo Police’s control over one part of the border with Serbia. Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) parliamentary group chief, Avdullah Hoti, asked the Minister of Interior Affairs if police controls the whole border with Serbia, citing concerns by residents of the village of Karaqeva who claim that Serbian Police often enter Kosovo’s territory. Minister Gashi said the oversight of the border with Serbia is still under KFOR’s mandate. “KFOR thinks that the disputed area between the villages of Novoselle and Karaqeve is under Serbian jurisdiction according to the 1999 Kumanovo technical-military agreement signed between KFOR and the Serbian Army. KFOR respects this agreement and expects Kosovo Police to do the same. Kosovo Police is present at the border with Serbia and monitors this part of the border in cooperation with KFOR. This does not include the area between the villages of Karaqevë e Poshtme, Karaqevë e Epërme and Buhovitët. Kosovo Police cannot monitor this area, because of a directive signed by former COMKFOR Salvatore Farina on May 12, 2014, which prevents us from using a bypass road, which in fact is the only road that would give Kosovo Police access to these villages,” Gashi added.
