The President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, gave an interview to Austria’s public broadcaster ORF. This broadcaster initially described how for many non-member states the European Union continues to be an important target.

“Especially for Kosovo, whose President is visiting Vienna. He hopes to find Austria’s support for Kosovo’s approximation to the EU.”

Speaking about the visa liberalization process, Thaci said that Kosovo will do the utmost to clarify it to its citizens that visa liberalization does not mean the right for asylum.

He said that the right for Kosovars to move freely as the other Europeans, is of human matter. “If isolation of citizens continues, then this would make space for other ideologies, which are in contradiction with EU interests,” Thaci said.

According to Thaci, there is no movement of foreign immigrants in Kosovo, the borders are defended in close cooperation with neighboring countries and the EU. “We do not compromise with human trafficking,” Thaci added.

He also spoke about the war against organized crime and corruption. “Kosovo possesses the most modern criminal code in the region which is drafted by experts from the European Union and the United States of America. Kosovo has been successful on fighting corruption. This was also proved by the EU representatives,” Thaci said.

Thaci is expected to continue with his meetings in Vienna today, while in the evening, he is going to be present at the promotion of the book on his biography “New State, Modern Statesman.”
