Germany maintains its position against Kosovo’s position even when some other diplomatic circles hesitate to comment on the possibility of partition being part of a compromise agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, the news website reports. In a written reply to Express, the German Embassy in Pristina said today that they maintain the same position on normalization of relations as expressed by Minister of State Michael Roth and Ambassador Christian Heldt. Heldt said in an interview a month ago that no one can convince him that partition would be the right solution. “No one was able to give me a convincing answer to the question what problems would be solved by partition. Would it bring about progress for most of Kosovo Serbs that live south of the river Ibar? Would it improve the situation concerning historical and religious sites, such as the Serb Orthodox monasteries?  Would it empower the representation of the Serb community in Kosovar society? No!,” Heldt was quoted as saying at the time. Minister of State, Roth, on the 10th anniversary of Kosovo’s independence warned about the consequences of including partition in the Kosovo – Serbia dialogue. “I wouldn’t offer the parties concrete proposals from the outside, because the issues you are mentioning are very complex and are certainly not easy to resolve. However, I generally trust that Kosovo and Serbia will overcome this obstacle if there is political readiness. I have to include a warning though: border changes are very dangerous. We are categorically against them,” Roth said in an interview to Pristina-based daily newspaper Koha Ditore in February.
