The President of Kosovo Hashim Thaci commented the statements for and against the dialogue with Serbia, which are part of the public debate in Kosovo.

He said that while in one hand we have all the allies of Kosovo’s freedom and independence supporting strongly reach of the peaceful agreement with Serbia, unfortunately, Kosovo has an opposition helped by some lonely voices of the civil society who consider this support to be ill-intended for Kosovo.

According to him, ever since the declaration of independence up to now, Kosovo never had greater international attention. Starting from the U.S., Germany, France, Italy, Great Britain and almost all the EU member states, are involved in efforts to reach a peaceful agreement between Kosovo and Serbia.

“This eventual agreement, which is very difficult to be reached, has for the main goal recognition of Kosovo from Serbia and our membership at EU, NATO and UN,” Thaci wrote.

“There is no greater misfortune for the state and citizens of Kosovo than when an opposition political party or individuals put under question mark the support of the U.S. and our main allies. This situation is for regret,” Thaci wrote.

“This unscrupulous propaganda of the opposition parties against our international allies, wrapped with the panic of alleged violation of the state sovereignty, is dangerous and shameful. Never a single evil comes to Kosovo from the support of our western allies. The only evil that could come to our country is from those who do not want peaceful agreement with Serbia, who do not want Kosovo’s membership at EU, NATO and UN,” He wrote.

Thaci added that Kosovo citizens should make their choice through referendum. They should decide if they are for a peaceful agreement with Serbia, which ensures Kosovo’s membership at EU, NATO and Un, or if they want to live in hostility of the neighboring country and isolated. “I know that they will chose the first option, therefore I am working in close coordination with our international allies, for the peace with neighbors and integration to be the right solution,” Thaci wrote.
