Around 88 percent of citizens in the four northern Kosovo municipalities, where the majority Serb population is residing, does not trust any Serb politician in Kosovo, while 99 percent does not trust any Albanian politician, Radio Free Europe reports today.
This is according to the survey conducted by Mitrovica North Non-Governmental Organization Aktiv, which in the second half of June interviewed 800 respondents from Mitrovica North, Leposavic, Zubin Potok and Zvecan.
Compared to the results from the last year, mistrust of the citizens in relation to the Serb politicians was 78 percent.
Aktiv pointed out that the results of the survey unambiguously indicate “crisis of trust” in society in the northern Kosovo. Radio Free Europe added that representatives of the Serb community in Kosovo institutions come from the Serbian List mainly, and it is the only political subject Belgrade supported in Kosovo elections, following the Brussels agreement in 2013.
Radio Free Europe also said Serbian List did not respond yet to their request to comment on these findings.
Citizens in the north of Kosovo said mistrust in Serb politicians is the result of unfulfilled promises, but it is also linked with the fact that there is no authentic leader among the Serbs in Kosovo, “since entire politics is run directly from Belgrade.”
Aktiv survey also noted that 66 percentage of respondents does not believe in the independence of the media, every third respondent thinks that increase of illegal activities is the biggest security threat in the north, while 53 percentage of young people aged between 18 to 29 years actively think of leaving Kosovo.
