Wolfgang Petritsch, the former EU Envoy for the Balkans, criticized the Kosovo government’s decision to introduce a 100-percent tax on Serbian and Bosnian goods. “There is an ongoing trade war between Belgrade and Pristina and it just got worse with the Kosovo government’s decision to increase the tax on Serbia by 100 percent,” Petritsch told Kurir on Tuesday. He also said that the reasons behind the decision are related to internal political developments in Kosovo. “In Pristina there are great differences between President Hashim Thaci and Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj. In meetings with his Serbian counterpart, Thaci considered the possibility of a land swap in exchange for mutual recognition. But this was rejected by [Kosovo] Prime Minister and the majority of the people. Haradinaj now uses the border issue as a political weapon. Whereas as far as the tax is concerned, this is in opposition with the CEFTA agreement and Brussels says the decision must be revoked,” Petritsch said.
