Return necessary for the survival (KIM radio)

For the survival of Serb community in Kosovo and Metohija it is of utmost importance to encourage people to return, said Abbot of Decani Monastery, father Sava Janjic.

In an interview for the Novi Sad-based daily Dnevnik Janjic said that return doesn’t have to take place in settlements where people used to live before, instead it could take place in Serb-majority settlements.

Janjic explained that there are around four thousand Serbs in Metohija currently, and that return in Albanian-majority settlements has practically stopped. He further said that it would be very important that institutional return is encouraged during continuation of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.

Janjic warned that unless piled-up economic and social problems are not addressed it could lead to serious tensions, and even, as he put it, to situation that Serbs are targeted again, and voiced hope that it won’t be the case.

Janjic underlined that many Serbs are having problems with re-possession of their usurped properties
