Tension in Kosovo after election of Thaci as President of Kosovo (KIM radio, B92, Politika)
The political situation in Kosovo after the election of Hashim Thaci as President has been rather tense. The Kosovo opposition, unsatisfied with Thaci's election, but also with the agreement on the establishment of the Community/Association of Serb municipalities (ZSO), announced a new demonstration.
The Kosovo opposition seek the opinion of the Constitutional Court; because procedures have been violated at the Assembly session during election of Hashim Thaci as president of Kosovo, state the leaders of the opposition.
Due to the election of Thaci and the request to withdraw the agreements with Serbia and Montenegro, the opposition announced new protests on March 26.
The Government should solve two important issues - the Community/Association of Serb municipalities and the Special Court for war crimes, although it faces protests of the opposition and blockage of the Parliament's work.
Member of the Assembly of Kosovo, Nenad Rasic says that if this continues, the only solution will be early elections, because, as he says, the level of unrest and violence is worrying.
In case of early elections and the formation of the SZO will be delayed.
Kosovo opposition has changed the course of political action, by accusing the Serbian List of being illegal and by requesting its abolishment. Such statements are viewed as warning signs by the Kosovo analysts.
"And they, as citizens of Kosovo have the right to raise their voice, as well as their political representatives, that this situation makes them unsafe, and they anxiously wonder what awaits them tomorrow," said analyst Fatmir Sheholli.
"We have heard enough about Albanians being in a crisis that they cannot control leading them to fail to implement what was agreed in Brussels. This argument has fallen, now there is absolutely no reason for Albanians to not fulfill their obligations," adds Deputy Prime Minister Branimir Stojanovic.
Western diplomats and members of the public in Kosovo see Thaci's election as President of Kosovo as an introduction to new unrest which may occur at the end of this month when the opposition announces new demonstrations.
