Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday in Davos, Switzerland that "peace and stability have the greatest importance."

In this regard, Vucic added, he was "also ready to establish a hotline between Belgrade - Pristina.

Vucic told TV Pink that he had "many important discussion for Serbia at the World Economic Forum," and underlined that he believes "we will have the strength to calm down certain things - even those that were under no influence of ours whatsoever."

In an interview with Kosovapress, Mitrovica North Mayor Goran Rakic said the wall will not be demolished while Kosovo police special unit (ROSU) cannot go to the north again. “Tensions have increased following recent events and citizens are rightfully concerned. I consider someone wanted to use this situation for political purposes and I appeal to all parties in talks in Brussels to decrease tensions and the top priority should be maintaining peace in these parts because there is no other alternative,” Rakic is quoted.

Kosovo Assembly President Kadri Veseli said today that the situation regarding Serbia’s train was an “artificial provocation” and urged the people of Kosovo to have more faith in their institutions. “The situation is serious but people should feel safe. They should not feel threatened. We will not allow Serbia’s walls and trains in Kosovo,” Veseli said after the meeting of the Kosovo Assembly presidency. He also said that the Mitrovica North wall will be taken down. “I am not sure whether on 1 or 17 February but it will most definitely be demolished,” Veseli said. “The wall is artificial.

The session of the Mitrovica North Assembly scheduled for today to approve the construction of the wall in the “King Peter I” in the northern part of the city was cancelled on the request of the Serbian List representatives. Bashkim Cimili, member of the Mitrovica North Assembly from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) said no explanation was given behind the decision to cancel the session.

The Mayor of North Mitrovica Goran Rakić says that it is the right of local government to build on the territory on which they govern, and adds that the announcement of the central authorities in Pristina on demolishment of the supporting wall goes beyond their limits.

Mayor, Agim Bahtiri, met UNMIK Deputy Chief, Christopher Coleman, and his associates, whom he briefed on the current situation in the municipality and the challenges for this new year.

Sokol Havolli, the chief of staff and advisor to Prime Minister Isa Mustafa, in an interview with KTV, commented on Belgrade’s recent ultimatums about former Local Government Minister Ljubomir Maric and the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities. Havolli said the Kosovo government has never functioned based on ultimatums, “especially those coming from the Serbian state”.

After the statement of the mayor of Mitrovica North, Goran Rakić, that the concrete wall between north and south Mitrovica will not be demolished but only redesigned with stairs which would be connected to the roundabout that will be built in the northern part, Kosovo’s Minister for Dialogue, Edita Tahiri, told Indeksonline that the wall will be removed. “It is a wall that appeared illegally. All institutions, the government and opposition are against this wall and the logic of walls,” Tahiri said.

“Civic Initiative for Action considers that the European Union holds the main responsibility for the dividing wall built in Mitrovica, therefore, they will organize today a symbolic action to request from the EU, as mediator of the negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia, to ruin the wall and expel from Kosovo Serbian state, which is ruining the republic from inside,” informed a press release issued by this Initiative.

Faton Abdullahu, adviser to the Prime Minister of Kosovo, said that building of the wall in Mitrovica north is a political hara-kiri for Serbs there.
