The Mayor of Skenderaj and former commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army, Sami Lushtaku, sent an open letter on Thursday to all those working in the judiciary, after he was found guilty for war crimes last week.  In his letter, Lushtaku writes that it was not easy to argue that they he didn’t kill a civilian. “When one does not know his family, and who he is, this means that he doesn’t exist,” Lushtaku writes.  “Therefore, as foreseen by the law, together with my lawyer we will file a complaint.

Fifteen former members of the Kosovo Liberation Army’s wartime ‘Drenica Group’ cell told their trial that they defended their land from their enemy but did not commit war crimes.

In their closing statements on Monday at Mitrovica Basic Court, the 15 defendants rejected the charges against them and asked for acquittal, saying they were not guilty of the abuse of civilian prisoners at a KLA detention centre in the village of Likovc/Likovac during the Kosovo conflict.

The Deputy Ambassador of a Western embassy in Pristina implied today that the upcoming session of the United Nations Security Council could address the establishment of a special court that will deal with war crimes allegations in Kosovo. Pristina is alarmed by this news that came from the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The Kosovo Assembly Presidency called a meeting for 11:00 today and it is expected to summon an extraordinary session of the Assembly for today.

Citing unidentified sources, Lajmi reports that the Kosovo Assembly will hold an extraordinary session today to vote on the special court that will address war crimes allegations. The Assembly Presidency will meet at 11:00. The heads of parliamentary groups will also attend the meeting. “The Assembly Presidency, which will meet at 11:00, will call a parliamentary session for this afternoon and the establishment of the special court will be in the agenda,” the source, who preferred to remain anonymous, told the news site.

The paper’s deputy editor-in-chief Lavdim Hamidi writes in a column today that the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) has reached a record number of members now in 2015 as there are around 50,000 people who have gained the status of KLA veteran. Judging from the figures, writes Hamidi, it seems ‘everyone’ in Kosovo was part of the KLA and if this had truly been the case during the conflict in 1998-99, there would be no need for NATO to intervene in ousting Serb troops from Kosovo.

Former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) combatants will protest on Monday in front of the Kosovo government building in Pristina. They will demand the publication of all lists of war veterans and the implementation of the law on KLA war values. Disappointed with the delay in the publication of lists, former KLA combatants said they will hold no responsibility for the outcome of the protest.

Association of missing persons in Kosovo and Metohija and the Association of missing Albanians have agreed with the families to seek together all disappeared.

This was after the meeting, "Non-governmental associations for Missing Persons - Example of best practice and cooperation between communities", in Pristina, said the coordinator of the Association for missing persons in Kosovo, Milorad Trifunovic.

Trifunovic told BETA that the policy remains the major obstacle to resolving the fate of missing Serbs and Albanians.

The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) has begun collecting MPs’ signatures to support a motion for amending the law on Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) veterans. According to AAK, the current law does not protect the rights of all those who contributed to the KLA war.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, said on Wednesday that special court will deal with individual cases and not with the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). He said that the Law on special court soon will be processed in the government and in Parliament.  "By the end of this week or early next week we will proceed with the establishment of special court. It is a difficult process but helps to resolve the issues raised. The court is not directed against the KLA, but only against certain individuals,” said Mustafa.

The Srpska List called on Albanian leaders in Kosovo-Metohija and representatives of the Kosovo government and parliament to pass a bill setting up a court that would try war crimes committed by the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).

The Srpska List noted that the attacks targeting Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija are well-organized, and aimed at intimidating the remaining Serb population, and presenting prominent Serbs as “bloodthirsty criminals” so as to make the Serb people in the province powerless.
