Nitan: Serbia in EU only after recognition of Kosovo (Kohaonline)

Ditmar Nitan, Deputy of the German Bundestag from the Social-Democratic Party (CDU), said for Deutche Welle that Serbia could become an EU member the earliest within five years and that at the final stage of its membership, Belgrade will have to face the fact that EU membership is possible only with the recognition of Kosovo.

Asked if Serbia’s membership in EU requires explicit recognition of Kosovo, Nitan answered: “Yes, it has to come to this, but in the end.”

The ruling of the Constitutional Court, which gave the right to the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), stresses that “the 17 July constitutive session is not concluded and that it should proceed with the election of the Assembly Speaker and the deputies.”

The Constitutional Court decides in favor of the PDK (kohaonline)

The constitutional Court issued a press relase which stresses that on Thursday, 21 August 2014, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo deliberated and voted on Case KO119/14, concerning the constitutional review of Decision on the election of the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, No. 05-V-001, voted by 83 deputies of the Assembly on 17 July 2014.

The referral was submitted to the Court on 18 July 2014 by Xhavit Haliti and 29 other deputies of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo.

Twenty seven displaced families are expected to return to Peja (Koha)

Peja Municipality, the representative of displaced persons and UNHCR on Wednesday have signed an agreement with which it is foreseen the return of displaced persons from this municipality from Montenegro and Macedonia.

This way in the list to return are 27 families of Roma and Egyptian community, meanwhile for 7 of them will be constructed houses. The agreement signed by all parties foresees that municipality to allocate land for the displaced returnees. According to the agreement, UNHCR will support construction of houses for returnees.

The Constitutional Court is not the government (Koha)

Political analyst Halil Matoshi criticizes the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) for the current political stalemate. He argues that new elections are not the right solution for the political crisis, “and if the PDK keeps insisting on new elections, the international factor will say NO to the idea”. “The PDK, aware that no political party wants to enter a coalition government with it, has intentionally blocked the entire system by addressing the Constitutional Court, which in the absence of political agreements, serves as a despotic government.

LAN-PDK to face each other at the Constitutional Court tomorrow (kohaonline)

The Democratic Party of Kosovo and coalition block of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), and the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA), supported by Vetevendosje Movement, will present their arguments and counter-arguments at the Constitutional Court tomorrow. The hearing session was called based on the appeal of the PDK on the manner of the election of the Assembly Speaker at the Assembly’s constitutive session on 17 July.
