Kosovo’s Minister for Interior Affairs, Skender Hyseni, told reporters in Pristina today that around 100 Kosovars are fighting alongside terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq and that 40 Kosovars have been killed in the fighting so far. Hyseni said that according to the information of the government, Kosovo is not a target of a possible terror attack. Asked to comment on media reports that the annual 4^th July concert in Pristina in honor of the United States of America was cancelled, Hyseni said no permission was asked to stage the concert.

The Kosovo Police have started patrols by boat on Badovc Lake. The decision came after the recent incidents on the shores of the lake where several people were arrested who are suspected to be associated with terrorist organizations.

In an interview for the news site, Pristina-based attorney Tome Gashi said the statute of the special court does not allow for it to try Ramush Haradinaj, leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), or Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) leader Fatmir Limaj, because both men were acquitted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. “Some of their political rivals are implying that Haradinaj and Limaj could be tried by the special court. However, Haradinaj, as a senior KLA officer, was declared innocent in two occasions by the ICTY.

The Vetevendosje Movement MP, Rexhep Selimi, commenting on the publication of a list by the journalist Milaim Zeka containing the names of the alleged suspect of special court, said that neither Milaim Zeka nor Hashim Thaci know the names that are expected to be among the accused by the special court. He said he didn’t take the list seriously, knowing that Milaim Zeka is not the one who makes the list.

The Lead Prosecutor of the European Union’s Special Investigative Task Force (SITF), David Schwendiman, said on Monday he was encouraged by the adoption of the legislation for the formation of the special court in Kosovo. “The Kosovo Assembly adopted the constitutional amendments and the law that makes way for the formation of the Specialist Chambers and the Office of the Specialist Prosecutor,” Schwendiman said in a media statement.

The head of the Vetevendosje parliamentary group, Glauk Konjufca, said today that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hashim Thaci is using undemocratic means to convince his MPs to vote in favor of special court. Konjufca during the meeting of the Assembly Presidency said that Thaci was blackmailing his MPs by telling them that they would not be on the elections lists if they do not vote for the establishment of the special court.

Kosovo’s Principal Deputy Prime Minister and Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) leader, Hashim Thaci, said today that next week the Kosovo government will submit to the Assembly the constitutional amendments for the formation of the special court. After a meeting of the PDK parliamentary group, Thaci said he was confident that the Assembly will vote in favor of the special court, “because this is for the good of Kosovo and its partnership with the international community”.

The head of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) parliamentary group, Adem Grabovci, said that PDK MPs will meet on Wednesday and not today as was initially reported in the media. PDK MPs will discuss the establishment of the special court which will address war crimes allegations in Kosovo.

The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) MP, Vjosa Osmani, said today that the government of Kosovo is being late on re-submitting to the Assembly the constitutional amendments that enable establishment of the special court. "I'm not sure if the PDK is making serious efforts to convince MPs to vote in favor of special court, however, it remains to be seen whether we will have any success in achieving the necessary votes. This must be a result of the MPs’ free will and not the result of any pressure or threat,” Osmani said.
