Thaci: There was no Assembly session but an illegal meeting (Kosovapress)

Leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Hashim Thaci said after the meeting with the party presidency that they discussed modalities for creation of new Kosovo institutions. Thaci said that today’s Assembly session was illegal and unofficial. He said the bloc used the premises of the Kosovo Assembly by exceeding authorizations. Thaci said all leaders should sit down together and reach an agreement on forming Kosovo institutions in accordance to the constitution, laws and the result of 8 June elections.

Jahjaga continues lobbying, asks Slovakia to recognise Kosovo (Kosovapress)

President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, has been making the most of her visit to the United States. Earlier in her visit, she requested recognition of Kosovo’s independence by Singapore and South Sudan but yesterday she asked the Slovakian President, Andrej Kiska, to do the same. Jahjaga is reported to have briefed Kiska on the progress Kosovo has made and stressed that independence of Kosovo is now an international reality recognised by 108 countries and is irreversible.

Thaci: Building of institutions only in accordance to the Constitution (Kosovapress)

Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, said everyone should respect Kosovo Constitution and laws and the entire political spectrum should reflect in the interest of Kosovo and its citizens. He stressed that June elections were free and fair and will provide the citizens of Kosovo the best possible solution for building of stable and efficient institutions that will work for economic development, opening of new jobs and integrating Kosovo into EU and NATO. He said they will continue implementing the “New Mission”.

Zbogar: We can only give recommendations to break political deadlock (Kosovapress)

Samuel Zbogar, head of the European Union's Office in Kosovo, said today that the international community would not interfere to break the political deadlock in Kosovo, but that it could give recommendations to overcome the situation as soon as possible. "We will have to wait and see what will happen in the next couple of days. This is a democratic process and in line with the decision of the Constitutional Court. There is no institutional crisis," he said. Zbogar also said elections are the last option and that Kosovo's leaders need to find a solution without organizing new elections.

Meeting between bloc’s leaders (Kosovapress)

Leaders of the coalition between the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Alliance for Future of Kosovo (AAK), Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) and Vetevendosje have begun a meeting which is expected to focus on future steps following the end of the constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly by the chairperson, Flora Brovina. The meeting is taking place in the offices of the LDK parliamentary group in the Kosovo Assembly building.

Osmani: Next assembly session should be held as soon as possible (Kosovapress)

Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) MP, Vjosa Osmani, said that Assembly chairperson Flora Brovina needs to schedule the next session as soon as possible, “so that the majority can elect the Assembly President, because we saw today that the PDK lacks the necessary votes”. Osmani also said, “we have several scenarios in mind, but we will wait until the next assembly session where the PDK will once again realize that it lacks the necessary votes”. Osmani said she does not believe internationals will interfere in the process or that Kosovo should go to new elections.

PDK candidate for Assembly President fails to get enough votes (Kosovapress)

The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) candidate for Assembly President, Arsim Bajrami, did not get enough votes in today’s constitutive session. 44 MPs voted in favor of Bajrami, 61 voted against and 11 MPs abstained from voting. Assembly chairperson Flora Brovina said she needs to interrupt the session and said she would inform MPs in writing about the date of the next assembly session.

22 mortal remains to be returned to Kosovo today (Kosovapress)

Although it was said in August when 16 mortal remains were handed over that another 24 will be returned early this month, only 22 mortal remains are expected to be handed over today at the border crossing point in Merdare.

Prenk Gjetaj from the Kosovo Government commission on missing persons confirmed the news. “As it stands, there are 22 mortal remains, two are questionable as there will be a lot of bones to be reattached to mortal remains returned in August”, said Gjetaj.

Kosovo preparing for sanctions against Russia (KosovaPress)

Kosovo is expected to place sanctions against Russia very soon, following in this manner the steps of the European Union. The Ministry of the Foreign Affairs has already coordinated and analyzed the possibility for sanctions to Russia.

 International relations professors also stressed that even though with limited capacities, Kosovo should follow the policies of the European Union and place sanctions on Russia.
