A hated regime (Kosova Sot)

The paper’s front-page editorial today notes that the outgoing head of EULEX, Gabriele Meucci, yesterday confirmed that several politicians in Kosovo are above the law and they do whatever they want. “As Mr. Meucci says, the fight against corruption and organized crime is being hampered by influential politicians, who think they can do whatever they want. In fact, they continue to do whatever they want, without ever facing the law for violations, abuses and their continuous scandals. Consequently, the state has become dysfunctional.

Thaçi: EULEX, a successful mission whose new mandate will reflect Kosovo’s reality (Indeksonline)

The President of Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, met today with Gabrielle Meucci, the out-going head of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX). “I thank you for the work that you have done. You have successfully led a complex organization and you managed to do so thanks to your wisdom and calmness,” Thaçi told Meucci. Thaçi added that EULEX is a successful mission and that it will continue to operate in Kosovo albeit with a new mandate that will reflect the reality in Kosovo.

Women write to Meucci: EULEX retraumatized residents of Krusha e Vogel (Koha)

Kosovo Women’s Network (KWN) has written an open letter to head of EULEX Gabriele Meucci expressing deep concern over, as it said, the mistreatment of the citizens of Krusha e Vogel, primarily women, by EULEX in exhuming several bodies from the village cemetery. KWN reminded EULEX that the women of Krusha e Vogel have been deeply affected by the war as on 26 March 1999, 113 men and boys disappeared or were killed by Serbian forces. To date, only 45 have been found and buried and the village still awaits learning about the fate of 68 others.

EULEX chief concerned with Ivanovic’s health (Indeksonline)

Head of EULEX Gabriele Meucci has expressed concern over the health of the leader of the Serb Civic Initiative (CI) Oliver Ivanovic currently on trial on war crimes charges. In a letter to Kosovo Serb leaders, Meucci said that EULEX shares the concerns over Ivanovic’s health during his hunger strike but added that EULEX is acting by the law and gave assurances that the decisions will be taken in an independent manner.

Meucci: If Kosovo establishes special court, EULEX to close task force on war crimes (Telegrafi)

The head of the EU Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), Gabriele Meucci, said today that if the Assembly of Kosovo adopts the constitutional amendments that enable the establishment of the special court, EULEX would close the Task Force that  investigates alleged crimes that happened during the war in Kosovo. "If the Assembly approves constitutional amendments, the task force and specialized chambers would become part of the Kosovo legal system.

Meucci agrees with expert’s criticism towards EULEX (RTKLive)

The head of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), Gabriele Meucci, commenting the report prepared by the independent investigator, Jean Paul Jacquet, who investigated allegations of corruption in EULEX, has stated that he agrees that the mission has not yet achieved its objectives in the fight against corruption. Meucci, in a clarification letter send to media wrote that the mission cannot sit blindfolded towards the criticism that Jacquet wrote in his report.

Jahjagaj meets head of EULEX, asks for Limaj case to be resolved (Koha)

Kosovo’s President, Atifete Jahjaga, met on Wednesday with head of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), Gabriele Meucci. Jahjaga and Meucci discussed cooperation in the field of justice and increasing the efficiency in the fight against corruption and organized crime. During the meeting, Jahjaga was interested particularly in the case of the leader of the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) Fatmir Limaj regarding the allegations that EU officials interfered in his case.
